Hello everyone!
My name is Sean aka Buster Moon. I’m sure many of you already know me quite well because I post videos daily on social media trying to teach you my native language, Korean. I’ve always wanted to start a newsletter and it took a long time for me to find the right platform to do so. But I’m excited to finally get this started and see what’s in front of me!
1. Why newsletter?
After posting videos almost every single day for close to a year and a half, I’m realizing that there is only so much I can do in terms of teaching Korean through the videos I post on social media. It usually goes like this. I post a video and you watch it and that will pretty much be the end of the learning process (unless you actually write it down in your note book and go over it and if that’s what you do, I give you props👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻). But we all know that it’s more or less just a short content to be consumed in less than a minute, then you’d move onto another piece of content and forget what you saw in my video. Also, there is one more thing. I don’t have enough time to explain things as thoroughly as I would like to, because, as a content creator, I also need to think about algorithm and, as a result, I try to limit the duration of my videos to be less than 30 seconds long. So, I thought I should actually start a newsletter where I teach you Korean in text form little by little but surely from the absolute beginning. We will take our time and learn together and I’m sure that we will have learned quite a bit of stuff by the end of 2023.
2. Building a Community
You could say I have already built my community on Instagram, TikTok and Youtube. Yes, I do have a total of more than 1.7 million followers and subscribers throughout the platforms but I think that building a community here will be something very different. I believe that people who subscribe to this newsletter are the ones who are more serious about learning Korean and will actually try and learn with me and that will allow us to have a really good and healthy relationship. There is also a really cool feature I like about this platform is that you will get to read my email and then communicate with not only me, but also with other subscribers by leaving comments. And I believe that is essential to build a genuine community.
3. Sharing My Personal Life, Thoughts and Ideas
Sometimes I go live on Instagram and people will come and say hi to me, ask some questions and I learned that people actually want to know more about me. They ask me a lot of personal questions which I don’t mind really and I try to answer every question I receive as best as I can. But it’s not always easy to share that part of me on social media as I know there are some who just want to learn Korean through my content and aren’t really curious about my real self. So, through this newsletter, I would like to share my thoughts, ideas and maybe my personal life too sometimes!
4. Going forward
So, I plan on sending you a newsletter every Sunday with Korean study notes and maybe a little bit of my personal life (if there is anything to share because my life is really boring right now). I don’t really know how it’s going to go but I’m just going to do it first and see how it goes after. If you haven’t subscribed but want to learn Korean, consider subscribing.
That’s really it for this week. Just wanted to say hi and I’ll start thinking about what and how to teach something next week. Have a great week everyone!
다음 주에 또 봐! (guess what I wrote here?)
